The Parthasarathy Temple procession, Garuda Vahanam, vends past Barathiar house (the red and white structure to the right) in Triplicane. I realised that I do not have a close up of the house only after deciding to put this post together. But there is a significance, though tragic - Subramania Bharati was killed by the temple elephant. Posted by Picasa

from what i remember reading somewhere, Bharatiar actually almost did recover from his tryst with the temple elephant. But again fell ill due to someother sickness (i forgot which one) and died. Its techinically not right to say he was killed by the elephant.

Hi Ashok, sure he died a few days later after he was attacked. But the popular version is that he never recovered from it. And the incident is usually considered the cause of his death.

I will check in my ACK but seriously if he 'reall' survived being trampled by an elephant he would be superman.

whatever happend later could have only worsened the condition but the elephant did it - I will go with that story.

Nice photo.

Most of them are walking with their arms folded. Why?

Ramnath, it is just humility while walking ahead of the lord.
