There is a TV ad here that goes something like this: A composer is sitting at his piano trying to compose an original tune but is unable to come up with anything. He then looks out the window and sees birds sitting on the transmission lines. Their pattern spells out a tune for him and he goes on to compose his song.

This picture reminded me of that ad.

Simple explanation: Balaji has asked them to pose for the camera! :)

Terrywhatlee: sounds an interesting ad.
Ashok: :-) I have no idea, somehow I have always taken it for granted that birds sitting in a row face the same direction.

Have noticed that the cows in some of the fields do the same, wonder if its to do with the position of the sun or something

WA: With cows I guess it could be a random thing. Though sunlight -- facing away from the glare could be a factor.
But with birds flock together then maybe they need to face the same direction. So they can stay in a group while flying or sitting on a wire. :)
Vibhor, welcome.
