The Brihadiswara Temple, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. It is more popularly known as the big temple - an apt name. But it is not just massive but also beautiful. It was built by one of the greatest Chola Kings, Rajaraja (King of Kings), who completed it in 1010 at the peak of his power.  Posted by Picasa

Hmm.. very interesting. It is funny - because in my blog I have just been talking about the huge impact of Ponniyin Selvan on an emtire generation and here you have the Thanjavur series up again ..........

Tilotamma, been planning this for some time. Maybe, your PS post helped decide the timing :) - I don't know.
This temple along with the earlier post on the one in Darasuram and another soon of Gangaikondacholapuram are related -- constructed by Cholas at the peak of their strength. So Thanjavur will be back.

Great Brihadiswara temple pictures, as usual. At least this is one temple that still retains its grandeur despite agencies like the ASI.
Tilotamma, yes there are committed readers of MM. I am one of them.

Tilotamma,
I know I am digressing from the comments on this blog. Still...
Please do continue with your articles in MM. Unfortunately, there seems to be more of musings now and less of Madras in it. No offence meant to anyone. Purely my personal opinion.
